Tutorial Steps
Step 01 Draft drawing
1.1 Draft preparation
A Qinglian expression pack was selected for reference. Combining the proportion and style of emoji itself, the content of the expression pack was summarized with the simplest shape, and accessories such as hair scarves were omitted to draw a sketch.
Step 02 Create document and make background
2.1 Creating Documents
Create a new document with a size of 800 * 800 pixels and a resolution of 72. Click OK
2.2 Production background
2.2.1 Modify the background color first.
Create a new layer and name it [Background Color]. Find the Gradient Tool on the right toolbar, set the colors at both ends as shown in the figure, select the Background Color layer, and pull a line from the bottom left to the top right to fill the canvas with gradient colors.
2.2.2 Next, add light to the background.
Create a new layer and name it Light. Find Brush Tool in the toolbar on the right, adjust the brush size to be about the same as the canvas, and select the foreground color as white. Click on the [Light] layer to make the bright part. According to the painting effect, adjust the opacity of the layer to 30%, as shown in the figure.
2.2.3 Add dark corners to the background.
Create a new layer and name it [Dark Corner]. Find [Paint Bucket Tool] on the right toolbar, set the foreground color to # 471683, select [Dark Corner] layer, and fill the canvas with color.
Select [Layer Panel] in the lower right corner, select [Dark Corner] layer, and add layer mask. Find [Brush Tool] in the toolbar on the right, set the foreground color to pure black (layer mask principle, black obscuring and white displaying), increase the brush size to about the same size as the canvas, click the layer mask of [dark corner], and the brush will tap in the screen to erase the color in the middle.
Finally, overall adjust the opacity of the layer to 60%. Select [Dark Angle], [Light] and [Background Background] three layers, and group the three layers (command+G) as the [Background] group.
Step 03 Draw basic shapes
Notes on shape drawing: When I draw shapes, I don’t consider the color of objects first, but simply distinguish each part with black, white and gray, and then adjust the color together when adding light and shadow later.
3.1 Drawing of face and facial features
3.1.1 Draw the head
Select [Ellipse Tool] and click anywhere on the canvas to create a 390px * 390px circle named [Head].
3.1.2 Drawing mouth and teeth
Select [Rounded Rectangle Tool] and click anywhere on the canvas to create a 209.43px * 62px long column rounded rectangle. The four rounded corners are 31px and the shape is named [Mouth].
Select [Rounded Rectangle Tool], click anywhere on the canvas, and create a 34px * 38px long and small rounded rectangle. The four rounded corners are 5px, and the shape is named [Tooth]. Select the shape of [Teeth], press and hold [Option] to drag, copy the same shape to the position where the edges meet, and repeat this action until there are 7 teeth in a row. Similarly, select the seven teeth that have been copied, copy the whole row, stick up and down, and make the shape of the second row of teeth. Put all the drawn teeth on the top of the Mouth layer, and cut all the layers. The final effect is shown in the figure.
